20th annual Macmillan coffee morning takes fundraising total to £17,899
After two decades of holding Macmillan Coffee Mornings this year’s event on September 28 was a virtual one – held online because of the exceptional circumstances we found ourselves in due to the pandemic.
Despite the changed format it was great that we still managed to raise just under £600 thanks to online donations via a special JustGiving page.
The total raised over 20 years is now £17,899.
The coffee morning is usually a busy community event with great support from local businesses who give generously for raffle prizes.
It’s always lovely to meet local school children who come along. Pupils from Whitchurch Primary School and their head teacher regularly attend. The head boy and girl from Whitchurch High School usually attend too, along with senior teaching staff. Local councillors and members of the public also drop in for a cuppa and cake.
Over the years I have welcomed so many local people to these regular coffee mornings in aid of such a worthwhile charity and I hope to be able to do this again next year, circumstances permitting.
Amounts raised in previous years
There is usually a great turn-out for the annual coffee morning which I hold in Whitchurch, alternating the venue to support local cafes.
- In 2018, my 18th year, the total sum raised increased to £16,000.
- In 2019, my 19th year, we made £800 plus a £500 from a local bank taking the amount raised that year to £1,300. The new overall sum raised reached £17,300 in total.
- In 2020, after two decades of fundraising and with online donations of £599, the total sum raised hit £17,899.
